Swanky!

Caribbean Motel
5600 Ocean Ave
Wildwood Crest, NJ 08260

I wish I would have taken a picture of the entire building because the retro factor is off the charts! Perhaps the circa 1957 exterior wasn't that eye-catching, but one look at the Caribbean Motel's official web site proves my initial statement. Check out that circular ramp and the vintage room decor! The bedside lamps are manufactured by the incredible Moonshine Lamp & Shade company.I should know, I have two of them!

If I were to ever book a room in Wildwood, this would be the place!

Down Wildwood Way

Sea Ray Motel
5006 Ocean Avenue
Wildwood, NJ 08260

Funny, I'd visited the boardwalk countless times as a child, though I never vacationed in Wildwood proper. My family and I always stayed in nearby Cape May, and I hadn't been back to Wildwood
in 10 or 12 years. My return this past weekend was an ecstatic one as this sleepy (in February) resort town proved to be quite the treasure trove of vintage neon delights. Check out this stunner from the Sea Ray Motel! The accompanying web site ain't much to look at but this sign sure is!

P.S. Check out the awesome street lamps in the background!

Wildwood, New Jersey - Winter at the beach!

Marvis Diner
4900 Pacific Ave.
Wildwood, NJ 08260

Although not vintage, (the diner opened its doors in 2007) the neon definitely features an attention to period detail that is unusual in today's age of cookie cutter big box store signs. It kind of reminds me of the design aesthetics from the swing/lounge revival in the mid/late 1990s. Think Capitol Records' Ultra-Lounge music series. Regardless, it's a beautiful work of art, and it was also the first sign that caught my eye en route to Wildwood's main beachfront promenade.
